Description
What is a bevel cut? Bevel cutting is a cutting process that requires the workpiece to be cut with an edge that is not perpendicular to its top. It is done to increase the surface area of the edge and thus achieve a stronger and more secure weld. There are different types of inclined edges, indicated by the letter of the alphabet that most closely resembles the shape of the cut seen in cross section. The most common types of bevel cuts include the letters V, A, X, Y up, Y down, and K.
Although it is possible to cut a beveled edge using a manual cutting tool, beveled edges are often cut using a torch or a cutting head designed for bevel cutting and mounted on a CNC cutting table, pipe cutter or on a machine for processing beams.
In the past, bevel cutting required numerous tests due to the high quantity of existing bevel cuts. Today new technologies, such as the fiber laser, have
, thanks to the inclusion of common parameters within the software used to control the movement of the cutting head or laser head for inclined cutting. Cy-laser's software allows you to create inclined parts or automatically import from CAD.
Slanted edges are necessary for welding preparation and other final assembly methods
The demand for increased productivity, together with the increasingly high cost of labor and the increasingly limited availability of specialized operators, are pushing companies to adopt automated technologies for inclined cutting.
Automated technologies promise improved precision and repeatability aimed at increasing productivity.
